Quote:
"If ask whether Ferret could crush Deep Blue, my answer was yes, if it was dropped out of an airplane.
With the new machine [quad Xeon], it would only need to be dropped five or six stories, which is progress of a sort."

1 2 3 4 5 Summary >
Fritz 5 is in many ways a revolution in computer chess - not only compared
to its unlucky predecessor, but also in relation to the current competition.
While the actual chess engine and its clear number 1 position on the SSDF list
may be subject to suspicion and criticism, the program concept itself is
beyond any doubt.
That already starts with the first glance at its user interface - clear
and well-ordered, the single parts (chess board, move list, evaluation,
PV and menu buttons) are beautifully arranged on the screen. Since Fritz
is a full Windows program, you profit the most if you have a high resolution
desktop like my 1280x1024. The only slight drawback is that Fritz' main
window is not resizable and can only switch between "full-screen"
and "minimized". In general, it does not adhere at all to the Windows 95
standard; with its menu buttons instead of real menus and the overall design,
it looks like you're running Windows 3.1.
